CDA sinks to record low in new poll
Support for the Christian Democrats has plunged to an all-time-low and the party would win just 11 of the 150 seats in parliament, according to the latest opinion poll by Maurice de Hond.
The poll was taken on Friday, the day after it emerged the party is divided over what should happen to Angolan youth Mauro Manuel. The boy is facing deportation back to his home country after living in the Netherlands since 2003.
Most CDA MPs support immigration minister Gerd Leers who says the 18-year-old must go back. But several polls show a majority of the population, and a majority of CDA voters, think he should be allowed to stay.
The De Hond poll puts the ruling VVD on 32 seats, up one on last week, and the PVV down one at 29.
The CDA took 21 seats at the general election in July 2010. That was almost half its share of the vote at the previous election.
