A man who stalked actress Carice van Houten and bombarded her with emails, letters and tweets has been committed to a psychiatric hospital for one year by a court in Amsterdam.

The court was told the actress was so terrified by the stalking that she was afraid to leave her home. At the end of October last year, the 42-year-old man rang her doorbell, prompting her to ring the police emergency number.
The court rejected the public prosecution department’s demand for a psychiatric prison term, saying he had no previous convictions and had not been violent.
