Bulgaria cancels visit by Dutch prime minister at last minute

Bulgaria has cancelled a planned visit by Dutch prime minister Mark Rutte at the last minute, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Monday.

A spokesman for the Bulgarian government told the paper the visit had been cancelled because of a ‘difficult debate’ about the budget.
However, the paper points out that the Netherlands and Bulgaria are currently at odds about membership of the open border area of the EU known as Schengen. The Netherlands and Finland have both vetoed Bulgarian and Romanian membership.
