Air travel website Cheaptickets.nl hacked

The personal details of 715,000 people who booked a flight through website CheapTickets.nl in 2008 and 2009 are in the hands of a hacker, website webwereld.nl reports on Monday.

The information includes names and addresses, passport numbers, passwords, destination and special requests such as vegetarian meals, Webwereld says. In some cases, enough information is available to steal someone’s identity.
The unknown hacker, who is not thought to have misused the information, was able to confirm private details to an Nos reporter who had booked a flight to Tokyo using the website in 2009.
The hacker broke in through a known fault in a test webserver, Nos says.
Webwereld has declared October to be ‘Leaktober’ and is focusing on poor computer system security.
