Utrecht mayor keeps job despite row over gay couple

Utrecht’s mayor Aleid Wolfsen has been allowed to keep his job following a long council meeting over the case of a gay couple who were bullied out of their home.

The mayor had come in for strong criticism for his failure to take enough action to protect the couple, who have since moved away.
Wolfsen has admitted that he, the police and public prosecution department did not work together properly to help the couple.
The couple are taking the council to court in an effort to win back the money they claim to have lost when they sold their home.
