The Netherlands backs Asmussen for central bank job
The Netherlands supports the naming of German finance minister Jörg Asmussen to the board of the European Central Bank, a spokesman for Dutch finance minister Jan Kees de Jager has said.
Germany wants Asmussen to replace Jürgen Stark, who resigned on Friday.
Asmussen ‘is very experienced in terms of European financial and economic policy. He knows the eurozone well and all the relevant players within it,’ the spokesman said.
