Older men and women with large waists die earlier, says health institute

There is a link between having a very fat stomach and developing heart and artery disease among elderly people, the national health institute RIVM is reported as saying in the Telegraaf.

Research shows elderly men with a girth of 123cm and women with a girth of 105cm have twice the chance of dying from cardiovascular disease as their counterparts with average waists.
The average Dutch man’s waist measurement is 94cm. For women the figure is 80cm.
The research, which will be published on Thursday, is based on a study of 58,000 people aged 65 to 75.
