Number of overseas students grows

A growing number of overseas students are winning places at Dutch universities through the lottery system, according to previously unpublished figures from the education placement service.

Nearly one in five first year students on a course allotted by lottery comes from overseas, which means fewer places for Dutch students, reports Nederlands Dagblad.
In 2006 9% were overseas students. In 2010 the figure had reached 18%.
The courses, such as medicine and dentistry, are allotted on a national basis.
