Minister to look again at deporting 18-year-old refugee

Immigration minister Gerd Leers says he will look again at the planned deportation of an 18-year-old youth who has lived in the Netherlands as a refugee since he was 10.

The youth, Mauro, who comes from Angola, has lived with the same foster family since he came to the country as an unaccompanied asylum seeker.
Now he is 18, Mauro is set to be sent back.
However, a majority of MPs, including Leers’ own party, the CDA, say the youth should be allowed to stay.
On Tuesday, Nos television reported Leers has used his discretionary powers to grant residency rights to 41 refugees who would otherwise have been sent home.
