Joran van der Sloot admits murder in police video

Dutchman Joran van der Sloot, currently in jail accused of murdering a young Peruvian woman last year, confesses to the murder in a police video released on Monday, say press reports.

He tells police he hit and strangled Stephany Flores after she read an email on his computer that ’caused me pain’.
It is thought the email referred to the disappearance of American schoolgirl Natalee Holloway on the Caribbean island of Aruba six years ago. Van der Sloot has twice been arrested and released on suspicion of involvement.
In the video, broadcast by the Peruvian news station RPP Noticias, Van der Sloot says Stephany hit him after reading the email. He reacted by hitting her several times and then strangling her.
When a police agent asks him: ‘Did you murder Stephany Flores?, Van der Sloot replies: ‘Yes’.
The 24-year-old then took her possessions and fled to Chili where he was arrested three weeks later.
Van der Sloot has been in jail in Peru since June 2010 where he is facing 30 years in jail if found guilty. The Flores family, however, are pressing for a life sentence.
