House fire? Get out in three minutes

People today have an average of three minutes to leave their home if fire breaks out, compared with 17 minutes 30 years ago, according to the fire injuries institute Brandwondenstichting.

The reduced escape time is due to the increased use of flammable materials in both building and furnishings, the organisation said.
There are 7,000 serious house fires in the Netherlands every year.
The institute is launching a fire safety awareness campaign in October.
