Facial recognition cameras to be installed on Rotterdam trams

Sunday 11 September 2011

Rotterdam's public transport company RET is planning to use facial recognition technology to make sure people who have been banned from using the city's trams don't sneak on anyway, local television station RTV Rijnmond reports.

RET is planning to install cameras in every compartment on the tram 2 route to test the system.

In theory, the cameras will scan the faces of everyone entering the tram. If someone who has been banned gets on, the driver will be given a signal.

The idea of using facial recognition technology to reduce aggression on public transport was first mooted a year ago.

RET denies there are privacy concerns because no names will be attached to the recorded images.

Wow, worst excuse ever, and no names attached to the images?

So the camera won't watch me check in with my OVchip-card that has my name/bank account number on it?

I have never heard of or seen an aggression problem on the RET. How much tax dollars will be WASTED on this garbage to solve a problem that almost literally doesn't exist?

You have to be seriously delusional to believe there is an out of control aggression problem on RET (besides the aggressive RET controle that give out tickets wrongly)

and the RET wants us to sympathize with their strikes?

Who is really under suspicion, us or the guv? Only a matter of time before we are all subject to obligatory chip-implants.
How much did the guv spend on a card-swipe system just for collecting garbage? Garbage drop-box container posts are disgusting & stink, most unhygienic!
CCTV cams do not offer protection to the driver, a metal cage would have been much cheaper, no need to spy.
The only way to stop aggression on trams would be an introduction of tram marshals, more effective and cheaper: Something for the soon redundant military ???
I thought George Orwell's 1984 was a book on fiction, 'guess I was wrong.

For years at least it has been known to advanced net users, that all of these "crisises", "terror atttacks" and "revolutions" are all just made up for erecting total global tyranny. Nice things like elimination of identity, private property, privacy and RFID put into our bodies are ahead.
Each day news are proving these warnings to be nothing but true, and this "yet another cam-scam" news is no exception.
