Geriatrics unpopular with students

Very few medical students want to specialise in geriatrics which is causing a shortage of care home doctors, reports Algemeen Dagblad.

There is room for 327 students on geriatric courses but this year only 220 have applied.
The current shortage of care home doctors is 180.
‘Most medical students want to do heroic things like saving young people. Old people don’t fit into that picture,’ Frank Hoek of medical organisation Soon, told the paper.
