Football club ADO Den Haag censured over anti-Semitic chants

Football club ADO Den Haag failed to take action to stop anti-Semitic chanting at a home match against Amsterdam club Ajax in March, a court in The Hague said on Tuesday.

The club has now been ordered to take ‘adequate measures’ to stop ‘undesirable and unacceptable’ crowd behaviour, the court said.
The case was bought by a foundation set up to combat the rise in anti-Semitism. Ajax players and supporters are nicknamed de Joden – the Jews – although opinion is divided as to the reason.
The chanting on March 20 led to a five match suspension for ADO Den Haag player Lex Immers for joining in the singing after the match.
ADO maintains its officials had not heard the singing.
