Dutch Rail left injured woman to die

Three Dutch Rail (NS) workers left a badly injured woman lying by the side of the railway tracks without waiting for the emergency services to arrive. The woman later died in hospital, according to press reports.

The three workers, two drivers and a ticket inspector, were arrested by railway police and questioned.
The incidence happened on August 7 when the driver of the train was warned by radio there was a body beside the line. The train stopped and two of the workers went to inspect the body. They found the injured woman and called an ambulance. The train then continued on its way.
The three have not been charged because the woman was beyond help.
Dutch Rail has not suspended them but they are on ‘extended leave’ while the company investigates.
The incident was kept secret by Dutch Rail, but a whistleblower contacted free newspaper Spits.
