Crime figures show an improvement

The police registered 1.2 million crimes in 2010, 5% fewer than a year earlier, the central statistics agency CBS says on Monday.

Crimes of violence, bike thefts and criminal damage all fell, but house break-ins and scooter and motorbike thefts rose.

Disraeli said it so well " there are lies, damned lies and statistics". Unless there is a possibility to make an insurance claim, most people don't even bother reporting thefts any more. After all, by their own admission, the police aren't even going to bother investigating!
