CO2 emissions rise
CO2 emissions have risen for the first time in seven years, according to figures on Monday from the central statistics agency CBS.
Emissions rose 6% in 2010 compared with the previous year. This puts emissions at 1% below the requirements of the Kyoto protocol.
The protocol sets CO2 emissions at 6% below 1990 figures for the period 2008-2012. Any increase on this, can be off-set by buying carbon credits under the EU emissions trading scheme.
The increase is attributed to the improving economy and the cold winter of 2010, says the CBS.
