Two insects per number plate every 10 km

A website to help count how many insects get squashed on car number plates in the Netherlands has revealed there are an average two deaths for every 10 km driven, the researchers from Wageningen University say.

The statistics follow an analysis of information from 250 drivers on Splashteller.nl. In total, the drivers counted 17,000 dead insects killed during 385 journeys.
That means 133 billion insects are killed in the Netherlands after being hit by cars every year.
