Population grows by 700,000 in 10 years

The population of the Netherlands grew by 700,000 to 16.6 million in the first 10 years of this decade, a rise of 4.5%, the national statistics office CBS said on Wednesday.

Just one fifth of the increase was due to net migration, the CBS said – the lowest share in the EU. On average 81% of the population growth in the EU was due to migration, the CBS said.
