Museum that never was cost €15m
The government, local councils and other bodies put €15m into developing the museum of national history – scrapped by the government earlier this year.
Most of the money came from central government, reports broadcaster Nos, which calculated the expenditure total. The idea for the museum was first mooted in 2007.

In November, culture minister Halbe Zijlstra scrapped plans to set up the museum in a purpose-built building in Arnhem in order to save €50m.
At the same time, he said the museum project group would remain intact with a €4m budget for 2011 to work on expanding awareness and knowledge of Dutch history.
In June Zijlstra said there would be no more money for the museum project from 2012.
