MP wants answers on Ziggo programming cuts

SP parliamentarian Jasper van Dijk has asked media minister Marja van Bijsterveldt for her position on cable company Ziggo’s plans to cut the number of television channels in its analogue package.

So far, 12 local programme advisory councils, which recommend which broadcasters should be included in the package, have protested to the media commission about the plans.
Ziggo is reducing the basic analogue package from 30 to 25 broadcasters, without a cut in price. It hopes to encourage viewers to switch to digital television.
The cuts mean, for example, that analogue television viewers in The Hague will no longer be able to watch BBC2 or BBC World, the Telegraaf says.
Ziggo, with over three million subscribers, is owned by private equity companies and is preparing for a stock exchange launch.
