Forged letter makes €4m

A group of three conmen was able to get €4m out of the environment and transport ministry last year, by simply forging a letter from Zuid-Holland provincial council, the Telegraaf reports on Tuesday.

The gang, said to be led by two British nationals, wrote a letter to the ministry using the official Zuid-Holland logo asking it to pay grants for clean air projects into a different bank account.
Ministry officials apparently did so.
Of the €4m paid out, some €600,000 has not yet been recovered, the paper says, quoting the AD which broke the story.
No further details about the crime were given but according to the Nos, the gang will appear in court on September 26.
