Arts and music school places cut by 20%

The country’s arts and music schools have cut the number of student places for the next academic year to meet government demands for fewer graduates.

In total, there will be 25% fewer places in art schools and a 10% cut in music school places.
Higher education minister Halbe Zijlstra had earlier threatened schools with a cut in funding unless they reduced the number of student places.
The money freed up by the cut in student numbers will be used to improve standards and develop specialisations.
