Amsterdam university chairman steps down

The chairman of the joint management board of the University of Amsterdam and the Hogeschool of Amsterdam has resigned with immediate effect.

Karel van Toorn stepped down because of a difference of opinion with the institutions’ joint supervisory board about the speed of strategic changes, media reports stated.
According to a spokesman for students’ union ASVA, Van Toorn wants to merge with Amsterdam’s VU university, but the supervisory board is opposed.
