Wilders keeps private company off MPs’ register of interests

PVV party leader Geert Wilders has not registered a company he set up last year with the parliamentary authorities, the Volkskrant reports on Friday.

As an MP, Wilders is required by law to include all his other jobs, business affairs and sources of income on the list of MPs’ outside interests.
Wilders set up the limited company OnLiberty in February 2010 to ‘manage intellectual property rights’ but it can also be used to make investments and other commercial activities.
Secrecy
Wilders has always campaigned against public disclosure of his business interests and PVV funding. It is known that he gets considerable financial backing from conservative sources in Israel and the US.
Wilders told the paper OnLiberty is not connected to the PVV and that all relevant information about his other activities has been made known to the tax office.
New legislation on party funding will force the PVV to publish details of its financing. Because the party has only one official member – Geert Wilders – it is not entitled to some of the state financial support that other parties get.
