Truanting students to lose their grants
Students in vocational education (MBO) and over 18 years of age will run the risk of losing their study grant from the new school year if they do not attend classes, the education ministry announced on Monday.
Rotterdam is the first council that will tighten up its truancy policy, aimed at dealing with students who leave school early with no qualifications, said the ministry and quoted by news agency ANP.
The state wants to lower the number of early school leavers from 40,000 a year to 25,000.
