Traffic chaos on A2 as armed robbers escape police

The A2 close to Deil, just south of Utrecht, is set to remain closed to traffic until at least 10.00 hours on Wednesday following a high-speed police chase in connection with an armed robbery on a money transport van, news agency ANP reports.

The robbers struck at around 03.00 hours in Amsterdam Zuid and used explosives and automatic weapons to evade the police.
They then crashed their getaway car on the A2, threatened another driver and made off in his car, ANP says. No one is thought to have been injured but the robbers have so far evaded capture.
Long jams have built up on the A2 and on the A27 but the A15, which was also closed for a time, has now been re-opened.
