Satellite navigation system maker TomTom announced on Monday a new free application for iPhone and Android telephones. The app, TomTom Places, allows users to park their car and navigate to their final destination on foot.

The app couples the location of a company to that of a user and allows the user to search for a company name or a type of company, product or service in the area.
TomTom Places gives the satnav company a new source of income from companies that will pay for a top position in the search engine.
The iPhone app will be on the market this summer. The Android app follows in the autumn.
