Sharp rise in single person households

The number of single person households has risen by at least 500,000 since 1995, according to new figures from the national statistics office CBS.


Now, 1.8 million people aged 18 to 65 live alone. The increase is greatest under middle-aged men who are more likely to live alone after divorce.
One in five men aged 18 to 65 live alone, as do one in six women, the CBS said. One in five men and women aged 40 to 65 who live alone are in a long-term relationship.
