Schools cut spending on teachers

Many primary and secondary schools are cutting back on spending on teachers, according to research by the government’s education advisory body CPS.

The CPS examined the policies of 1,400 school heads and team leaders and concluded 86% of primary schools are reducing spending on teachers. Three out of four secondary schools have also cut back spending on teachers by an average 16%.
Schools are also spending less on equipment, maintenance and support staff.
Given that the government has pledged education will not be hit by cuts in government spending, this is a worrying development, CPS director Suzan Koning said in a statement.
