Public transport strikes can go ahead, say judges

Wednesday’s public transport sector strikes in Rotterdam, The Hague and Amsterdam can go ahead now judges have ruled they will not have a ‘disproportional’ affect on passengers.

The strikes will take place between the morning and evening rush hours to allow staff to attend a protest rally close to parliament in The Hague.
The three public transport operators RET, GVB and HTM had gone to court, asking judges to ban the strikes.
Wednesday’s industrial action is the latest by public transport workers angry at government cuts in spending on buses, trams and metro services. They also oppose the government’s plan to force the three cities to put public transport services out to tender.
