Paper bus tickets to disappear in most places end June

Paper strip tickets are to disappear on trams and buses in most of the country at the end of this month, MPs agreed on Wednesday.

Overijssel, Gelderland, Flevoland, Noord-Holland and Friesland will make the switch to the public transport smart card – ov-chipkaart – on June 30, with Zeeland and Limburg following a week later.
The smart card is already the sole means of paying for public transport in Amsterdam and Rotterdam.
Calls by Labour and GroenLinks MPs to allow the two systems to operate in parallel did not win majority support.
