Labour inspectors keep close eye on foreign students with jobs

Labour inspectors are to pay special attention to non-EU students who also have jobs, after discovering a large number work illegally, the organisation said in a statement on Wednesday.

Last year irregularities were found in 71% of 170 check-ups focusing on foreign students at work. Most involved students from China and Nepal. The inspections resulted in 149 fines totalling €2.7m, the inspectors said.
Students from outside the EU need a work permit in order to get a job.
