Health minister asks for formal advice on healthcare costs

Health minister Edith Schippers has asked the government’s senior advisory body SER to look into ways of keeping healthcare affordable.

SER, which includes union, employer and lay members, will look at the relationship between families’ biggest expenses – housing, pensions and healthcare.
Schippers again warned on Thursday that healthcare costs are spiraling out of control. If the rise continues, solidarity between healthy and sick, working and non-working and young and old will come under threat, the minister said.
The minister has asked SER to complete its investigations by 2013.
