Health and travel at risk from tropical weather

The Dutch health institute RIVM is warning there will be smog in the south-east of the Netherlands on Tuesday afternoon and is advising anyone with breathing problems to stay indoors and keep windows closed.

The smog is a result of the high temperatures and lack of wind over the past two days.
Dutch railways NS also issued a warning for Tuesday’s afternoon rush hour when it will be running a reduced number of trains because of the weather. Weather forecasters are expecting thunderstorms with strong winds and giant hail stones.
‘This will cause trains to travel more slowly leading to delays,’ a spokesman said.
