Government unprepared for cyber attack

Wednesday 22 June 2011

The Netherlands is not sufficiently prepared for a global cyber attack is the conclusion of a major exercise carried out by the government, says the Algemeen Dagblad.

The government does not seem to realise the serious consequences of a cyber attack, which can lead to the loss of vital systems ranging from air traffic control and oil refineries at Rotterdam port to the knocking out of electronic payments, says the paper.

There is also a lack of coordination, with crisis managers spending most of their time in meetings talking about the situation, says the paper.

The results of the exercise will be presented to parliament on Wednesday afternoon.
