Eindhoven councillors back PSV bail-out

A majority of Eindhoven councillors back the city’s executive’s plans to buy local football club PSV’s grounds in an effort to end the club’s financial problems.

Officials agreed earlier to bail out the club by buying the land under its stadium and training complex for €48m. The contract has a 40-year duration and PSV will pay the council €2.4m a year in ground rent.
Despite earlier fears that the deal was risky for the council, most councillors are now set to back the plan at next week’s vote, news agency ANP reports.
PSV made a loss of €17.5m last season and failed to qualify for the Champions League this year. The club ended third in the premier division and will play in the Europa League.
Last month, the football association KNVB said just five of the country’s 36 professional clubs are financially healthy.
