The income-dependent fee for pre-school childcare is to rise sharply, RTL television news reports, quoting government sources.

The formal announcement will be made on Monday but it is clear high-income families will have to pay hundreds of euros more a month for childcare, RTL says. Low income households will also pay higher contributions.
The increase in fees replaces earlier suggestions that the government grant for childcare be reduced to a maximum €5 per hour.
