Cucumbers cleared, source of E-coli not yet found

Thursday 02 June 2011

The source of the E-coli outbreak which has made over 1,500 people ill across Europe was still unclear on Thursday, but Dutch salad stuff has definitely been cleared, junior farm minister Henk Bleker said.

'I am very pleased we now know Dutch cucumbers, tomatoes and lettuce are clean and safe,' the minister said. 'But I am even more pleased that nothing has been found in Dutch vegetables which could cause health problems.'

Cucumber exports to Germany, where the outbreak is most severe, have collapsed since last week. The EU has agreed to fund a €20m campaign to emphasis European vegetables are safe to eat, the minister said.

At least nine Dutch nationals have been infected with the E-coli bacteria, public health board RIVM confirmed on Wednesday.

I don't trust the words of the senior ministers, why on earth would anyone listen to the stageair?

Of course the Dutch were never going to come out and say 'actually, it could possibly be us!' Only the gullible would listen to the defensive governments, while the wise wait for an independent review (and the wiser grow their own!)

But where is the quality control on salads and fruit? Everything wlse in this EU requires a CE mark to show thast certain quality and testing has been undertaken, is it not time for CE on Food produce and the sources to be labelled. This may not stop the outbreaks but it would indeed immediately show their source so that they can be stopped and the others can continue to be sold, this must make sense here because the main reason for this prolonged outbreak is down to the fact that they have no clue as to the source of these items.

On the last comment, sad to believe that ministers or stageairs would take such a risk to human life.

The source of e.Coli is animal. Vegetables sprayed with manure from a bad source doesn't make the vegetables the villain - and if we don't clean up the animal factory farming practices this is going to continue in the future.

Hey people not eating veggies:::: There's this new technique called WASHING and PEELING that can allow you to still eat them. You can google for instructions if you don't yet know how to do these things.
