Car importer Pon takes over Gazelle bicycles

Car import group Pon has taken over the family-owned Dutch bicycle manufacturer Gazelle. Financial details were not disclosed.

The takeover fits in with Pon’s growth strategy to become a pace-setter in the mobility market, the company said in a statement.
Pon started out as a bicycle trading company in Amersfoort at the end of the 19th century. The company now employs 11,000 people in 12 countries and is an agent for Caterpillar, Seat and Continental among others.
Gazelle will remain an independent unit within the Pon group.
