‘Black box’ would cut lease car red tape

Car importers association RAI wants ‘black boxes’ to be installed in lease cars whose owners claim they do not use the vehicle privately.

By using a recording system to monitor driving habits, motorists and the tax office would be spared red tape, the organisation says.
Lease car drivers can avoid paying tax for their company car – up to 20% of the catalogue value – if they drive fewer than 500 km a year privately. Drivers have to keep a logbook of their car usage.
