Van der Sar to take up coaching

Goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, who formally retired from professional football after this weekend’s Champions League final, is to come back to the Netherlands and take up coaching, the Telegraaf reports.


‘That is the plan,’ he is quoted as saying in the paper. ‘I also want to train to be a coach and possibly train youth teams from time to time.’
‘But I also want to enjoy the other side of life,’ the 40-year-old said. ‘I have been active in professional football for 21 years… and the idea of a weekend off appeals as well.
