Parents spend more time with their children

Parents are spending twice as much time with their children as they did in 1980, according to a report published on Tuesday by the government’s social policy unit SCP.

Mothers spend 14 hours a week with their children and fathers six hours.
The research also shows that of the 2,700 people questioned, 63% disapprove of single mothers and 75% think children do better in a two-parent family. Only 15% think parents should be married.
The report also says that child poverty has grown since 2008 as a result of the financial crisis. Around 6% of children grow up in a family that cannot afford basis items such as food and clothing.
