Organic food sales rise 13%

The sale of organic food rose 13% last year, the 10th annual increase in a row, according to new figures from the farming industry institute LEI.


In total, consumers spent €752m on organic food, an increase of €87m on 2009.
Sales of potatoes, vegetables and fruit accounted for nearly 22% of the total bill, with dairy products on 17% and meat on 15%. Organic dairy produce now has 4.5% of the total market, while eggs have a 7.2% market share.
