One in 10 purchases made by people in the Netherlands last year was an online transaction, according to money transfer group Currence in its annual report.

Currence, which operates the iDEAL and PIN payment systems, says 70% of the Dutch buy goods and services online. Use of the iDEAL internet payment system doubled last year, with total spending reaching €5bn, Currence said.
Payments by direct debit cards rose 11% last year, to total nearly €81bn.
