New pin system leads to forgetting pass

The new pin system, known as the ‘dipper’, is causing problems because people forget to remove their pin card from the reader, reports the Algemene Dagblad.

The old system used a swipe method so the card remained in the user’s hand. To use the ‘dipper’, the card has to be pushed into a gap on the top of the reader and left there during the transaction. It is only removed when the transaction is completed and the number of people forgetting to remove their card is growing.
Shop workers are now warning customers to take out their card. Albert Heijn supermarkets and IKEA furniture stores are even adapting their cash registers so the receipt is not printed while the card is still in the reader as a reminder.
