Former PM to campaign for education rights

Former prime minister Jan Peter Balkenende is throwing his weight behind development group Global Campaign for Education, news agency ANP reports.

The organisation, which includes Desmond Tutu, Mick Jagger, Hillary Clinton and football players Zidane and Pele among its supporters, aims to get education high on political agendas.
The Netherlands was one of the most important donors in terms of education in developing countries during Balkenende’s time in office, the organisation says. Balkenende has been a partner at consultancy group Ernst & Young since January.
