The European Commission remains convinced that a consignment of Dutch cucumbers could be the source of the E-coli outbreak in Germany, which has killed at least 10 people, according to media reports.

Cucumbers from the Netherlands, Denmark and Spain are under suspicion, a commission spokesman told reporters.
The Dutch food safety body has inspected the grower where the suspected salad vegetable orginated but found nothing to give cause for concern, the Telegraaf reports.
Alarm

The Dutch market gardening product board has sounded the alarm about the effect of the reports on exports to Germany. ‘It is crucial the source of the infection is found as soon as possible so our healthy vegetables can be exported again,’ he said.
The food retail group CBL said sales of cucumbers in the Netherlands have not been affected. ‘Dutch consumers are more sensible,’ the organisation said.
According to the Financieele Dagblad, the Netherlands exports a total €8m worth of cucumbers a week to Germany at this time of year.
A spokesman for Limburg based growers organisation Kompany, which represents 65 cucumber growers, told the paper exports have practically halted.
