Bribery is part of business say one-third of employees

Some 31% of Dutch employees think it acceptable to pay customers bribes in order to bring in new contracts, according to an Ernst & Young survey on attitudes to fraud in Europe.

Employees in Greece (44%) and Russia (39%) are most likely to pay cash bribes while those in Norway (6%) are among the least likely, Ernst & Young said.
Some 25% of the Dutch polled think bribery and corruption takes place in the Netherlands but only seven percent say it happens within their own sector. The survey covered a complete range of workers, from the factory floor to boardroom.
‘Even though the Netherlands is one of the least corrupt countries in Europe, unethical behaviour is increasing,’ said E&Y’s Angelique Keijsers in the Netherlands. ‘Dutch companies should not underestimate the consequences of foreign anti-corruption policies.’
