Amsterdam ups surveillance on potential criminals

Amsterdam police have set up a special team of investigators to keep watch on potential armed robbers using hidden cameras and telephone taps, the Telegraaf reports on Tuesday.

The aim of the surveillance is to prevent armed robberies taking place by monitoring suspects before they have committed any (further) crimes. Suspects are identified on the basis of their previous criminal record or tip-offs.
Four men have already been arrested on suspicion of planning an armed robbery on a jewellery shop in the city thanks to the team’s efforts, the paper said.
